Biography
Schooled at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and Barnstone Studios, Lukens work is viewed and collected as a quintessential addition to the area's vibrant art scene.
After years of forays,out west Lukens settled in Richland Township, Upper Bucks County, Pennsylvania where he maintains a home and studio.
Highlights of note include a Phillips Mill Trifecta, in 2011 . the work was juried in, it won a ribbon and cash prize then sold.
A month long show at Stover Mill the following year garnered a top sales record to date at the time A juried show at Stover Mill that fall awarded Jim a Peoples Choice Award
In 2020 jim served as Bethleham's Museums and Sites Featured Artist. . The following year Jim was invited to hang a solo show at Bethlehem's Kemmerer Museum
For over a decade, he has been represented by Chapman Gallery of Doylestown, PA. On November 4, 2017, he opened the Main Street Gallery in Quakertown where patrons can view curated works of his own and of talented local artists. That year Main Street Gallery was presented with Harrisberg's Founder's Award , the result of a 7 year Properties of Merit program granted to Quakertown
THat year Main Street Galley was presented with Quakertown's First Arts and Culture Award.
The Free Press presented Jim and Main Street Gallery with their pick of favorite artist and favorite gallery 4 years in a row.
Lukens generously offers his expertise to teach students from beginning to the familiar in the techniques of oil painting, encouraging them to embrace their own style.
In 2011 Lukens CoFounded The Traditional Artists Show ,now in its !4th year. Proceeds by this annual weekend group exhibition run by participating artists have totaled over $100, 000 to the area's charities, making this a 'Don't Miss" favorite
In the midst of hitting his stride with galleries and shows, Jim commits to various charities and benefits which form a wellspring of inspiration.
